Hermaphrodite

This 17th century French Baroque poet eloquently captured the Olympian gods' amazement at Hermaphrodite's blended nature.
The ancient Greco-Roman legend tells of Hermaphrodite, whose body embodied both sexes in harmonious union. A divine mystery that left even the gods in contemplative awe.
Hermaphrodite symbolizes the flowing river of gender that refuses to be contained by rigid banks. This merging of feminine and masculine reveals that life's roles need not be fixed or predetermined. Through the embrace of both polarities, new and fertile possibilities emerge, uncovering wholeness in what traditional eyes once deemed incomplete.

The question of gender identity has flowed through history's current, shaped differently by each era's understanding. Traditional thinking confined us within the narrow shores of "true man, real woman," limiting how we express our deepest selves. Today, new thoughts have opened the gates, moving beyond physical form to honor the authentic self, celebrating our diverse expressions and affirming our right to live beyond convention's boundaries.
These photographs connect human forms with identities free from the constraints of gender or shape, revealing the beautiful dimensions where life and expression know no borders.

The gods brought me into being, and they were asked
What kind of fruit would enlarge the family.
Jupiter said a son, and Venus a daughter,
Mercury said both one and the other, and I was both.
They were asked again what my death would be.
Saturn threatened me with a noose, Mars with a blade,
Diana with troubled water, and no one believed
That different prophecies could mark the same disgrace.
I fell from a willow beside a pond,
My unsheathed dagger pierced through my side,
My foot caught in the tree, my head beneath the water.
O fate, by which my spirit is still terrified!
A dagger, a branch, and water black and deep
All at the same time bruised me, hanged me, and drowned me.

Hermophrodite

Hermophrodite
